Steady Knees
Be strong, do not fear; your God will come,
Isaiah 35:3-6 (NIV)
3 Strengthen the feeble hands,
steady the knees that give way;
4 say to those with fearful hearts,
“Be strong, do not fear;
your God will come,
he will come with vengeance;
with divine retribution
he will come to save you.”
5 Then will the eyes of the blind be opened
and the ears of the deaf unstopped.
6 Then will the lame leap like a deer,
and the mute tongue shout for joy.
Water will gush forth in the wilderness
and streams in the desert.
When Weakness and Fear Set In
As we walk along life’s journey, there will come many times when we feel weak and just want to give up. The fear of uncertainty and the future comes upon us, and we see despair no matter what choices we face.
Isaiah reassures us that our God is with us and will come to save us.
He also tells us not to forget our community—the people around us. As we look to our God for strengthening, we have to remember those with us who also face fears. We need to remind them, while reminding ourselves, that our almighty God will come to our rescue when we need Him.
A God of Miracles
Our God is a God of miracles.
What is impossible to man is easy for Him—making the lame walk, the blind see, and even causing water to gush in the desert. All of these are possible with our God.
This passage reminds us that no situation is too dry, too broken, or too hopeless for Him to restore.
A Story That Still Moves Me
I am reminded of a story shared by a missionary who preached at my church a few months back. She had served in different regions of the world that needed help, and her journey eventually brought her to one of the poorest areas in Africa.
During one outreach service, a boy was brought to her with his legs twisted into impossible angles. He was asking for healing.
The missionary doubted and did not know what to do.
The child pastor who was with her said, “Miss, why do you doubt?” and began praying for the little boy.
As the child pastor continued his prayers, the legs started straightening.
She stood there unable to believe her eyes.
Her lack of faith made her think healing was impossible. But in God’s hands, everything is possible.
